Couples Therapy

Most couples don’t come to therapy because they’re failing. They come because something that once worked between them isn’t working the same way anymore.

Couples therapy offers a space to slow things down and understand what’s really happening in your relationship — beneath the arguments, distance, or repeated patterns. My role is to help both partners feel heard and understood, while gently guiding the conversation toward clarity rather than escalation.

In our work together, we focus less on who’s “right” and more on how patterns developed, what they’re protecting, and how they continue to play out. Often, the same cycle shows up again and again — even when both people want something different. Understanding that cycle can create room for new responses.

Couples therapy with me is practical, relational, and grounded. We pay attention to:

  • how conflict unfolds

  • how needs are expressed or missed

  • how emotional safety gets disrupted

  • how each partner learned to cope and protect themselves

This work can be especially helpful during mid-life, when relationships are often impacted by outside stressors — parenting, caring for aging parents, career changes, recovery, hormonal shifts, or evolving identities. These pressures can quietly strain connection and communication, even in strong partnerships.

Therapy is not about assigning blame or forcing solutions. It’s about creating enough safety to have honest conversations, understand each other more clearly, and decide how you want to move forward — together or with greater clarity about next steps.

I provide LGBTQ+ affirming couples therapy and welcome diverse identities and relationship structures. Humor and real conversations are welcome here, especially when we’re talking about hard things.

If you’re finding yourselves stuck in the same patterns and unsure how to shift them, couples therapy can offer a supportive place to begin.

Some clients begin with individual therapy, while others benefit from couples therapy or couples therapy for one partner.
